Rosarian student’s “sunny” poetry wins award

ÒHere is some advice: tanning beds are not fun. It could hurt your skin a ton,Ó says Lacey Steele, Rosarian Academy fourth-grade pupil, in her poetry entry for the Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation 2013 Melanoma Monday Art Contest. SteeleÕs submission won third place and a $25 award.

In an effort to help save lives and bring awareness to the preventable disease of skin cancer, the foundation opened this yearÕs contest to Palm Beach County schools. In the third-fifth grades category, pupils were instructed to write a poem, limerick or rhyme promoting sun safety and how over exposure to the sun can dage the skin.
