Montessori Early Childhood Teaching Assistants

The Montessori assistants at Rosarian Academy are guides who help direct his/her students’ activities academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically in a prepared Montessori environment that challenges each child to reach fullest potential in these developmental areas, in accordance with Montessori philosophy and procedures for the age group in which the assistant is placed. The assistant is also responsible for helping to maintain the operation of the classroom in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines and requirements. The Montessori assistant performs his/her services under the direction of the lead teacher and supervision of the Early Childhood Director / Administration for the duration of the ten month school year. Additional summer opportunities are available for those wishing to work twelve months.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support the Lead Teacher in the development, implementation and assessment of a Montessori Learning Environment for pre-school students.
  • Working collaboratively and productively with Lead Teacher and other staff members
  • Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings and events
  • Supervising children on the playground
  • Changing diapers and assisting in toilet training (1/2 year old programs)
  • Assist with pick up and drop off as necessary
  • Maintaining order and cleanliness of the Learning Environment
  • Providing direct instruction and/or remedial help as directed by the Lead Teacher or Administration

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree preferred (but not required)
  • Experience in a Montessori Learning Environment preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organized, flexible and team-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively with preschool children
  • Willingness to learn about Montessori Education and Conscious Discipline
  • Must have completed 45-Hour Child Care Training Course as required by DCF or be willing to complete upon hiring
  • CPR and First Aid Certified

Physical Requirements:

  • Be able to work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Be able to push a stroller
  • Be able to repetitively bend and kneel
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

Lower School Teacher

Reports to: Director of Lower School, Head of School

Position Purpose: Provides an educational setting for the teaching of assigned classes while offering a superior education academically, spiritually, and socially in a structured, positive environment in the tradition of Catholic education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strong teaching skills for school curriculum and student developmental needs.
  • Follow school mission, procedures, and policies in administrative and educational matters as set forth by the Head of School and the Board of Directors.
  • Lead students in prayer and nurture them to develop a Christian based character.
  • Be accountable for daily curriculum planning and implementation of plans.
  • Be responsible for daily instruction of students.
  • Be accountable to meet the minimum learning objectives for the grade levels taught: to teach, test, and re-teach with a variety of materials and resources suitable to the learning situation until reasonable mastery is achieved.
  • Be responsible for the observations, evaluations, testing, reporting, conferencing and record keeping of each student.
  • Be responsible for the organization of classroom structure and daily orderly maintenance of the classroom environment.
  • Maintain an attractive environment conducive and related to the educational process and the units and themes being taught.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with staff and parents.
  • Be responsible for classroom discipline and student management in keeping with the school’s discipline policy.
  • Submit weekly lesson plans to the Head of School or his/her designee when requested.
  • Keep daily plans easily accessible in the event that a substitute is needed. A current, updated substitute file of general information of schedule and seating is also required.
  • Be responsible to guide his/her education assistant(s) and/or volunteers in their role in the classroom when appropriate.
  • Be responsible for the safety and health of students in the classroom.
  • Be accountable to participate in parent/family school events as scheduled or requested by the Head of School.
  • Be responsible to assist in the planning and implementation of all school programs and special events as requested and required.
  • Be responsible to set up classroom prior to the opening of school as well as year-end clean-up of classroom.
  • Be responsible to communicate curriculum and activity information to parents regularly.
  • Be responsible for the timely planning and communication of supply needs.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional and Christian manner both in and out of the classroom.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; advanced degree preferred
  • Hold a current and valid Florida State Teaching Certificate applicable to the subject/grades being taught, or currently be working towards obtaining said certification.
  • Completion of required VIRTUS Training (upon hire).
  • Ability to move about the school building(s) and campus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with parents, students, administration, and a variety of people and personality styles.

The Guidance Counselor provides a comprehensive school counseling program that assists all students in acquiring the skills and knowledge to maximize highest student achievement in a safe learning environment. Responsibilities may vary depending upon the specific work setting and counselor to student ratio and should correspond to the needs and priorities established in the schools counseling program. Position is 195 work days/school year, which includes all required faculty days plus one week prior to and at the conclusion of each academic year.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

•  Implements the comprehensive school counseling program
• Acts as an advocate for all students grades K-8
• Works in collaboration with the ACE program faculty, as well as other stakeholders, in narrowing the achievement gap for students identified with deficiencies
• Provides professional leadership to establish a culture conducive to learning
• Counsels individual and/or small groups of students with academic, social and personal concerns
• Assists students in developing a plan for achieving educational, career path, and personal/social goals
• Consults with a variety of school based teams to facilitate appropriate placement decisions to maximize student achievement
• Confers with classroom teachers, administration, support staff, community agencies, and parents regarding students and their individual and collective needs
• Provides support to teachers in the delivery of counseling program related curriculum
• Coordinates with school and community agencies to broaden student resources and proactively seeks new programming necessary to further school goals
• Identifies and disaggregates critical data, such as grades, standardized test scores, attendance, promotion rates, and enrollment to drive programming
• Uses data to develop strategies to positively impact students
• Follows the guidelines of the national and state standards for professional school counselors
• Adheres to ethical and legal professional standards
• Uses appropriate technology for counseling services
• Performs other related duties, as required including but not limited to substituting.

Minimum Requirements/Experience

Education

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling

State of Florida School Counselor certification or eligibility for Florida State certification

Experience

Orientation to and/or experience in an educational setting for two or more years.

Job Title: Part-Time Early Childhood Aftercare Assistant

Monday – Friday

2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. regular school dismissal time)

12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. dismissal time)

11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Noon dismissal time)

Responsibilities Include:

  • Instructors are responsible for the creation of all materials related to activities. Prior to distribution, all materials must be pre-approved by Rosarian Academy.
  • Daily attendance records must be submitted to the Main Office within 30 minutes of the start of each daily session. (No later than 3:25)
  • Work collaboratively and productively with fellow aftercare teachers and other staff members
  • Change diapers as needed
  • Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings and events when required
  • Supervise children on the playground
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the Learning Environment
  • Provide direct instruction with homework
  • Discipline as necessary – always try re-direction first, conscious discipline, and anticipating problems before they arise! Observe, Observe, Observe!
  • Be attentive of children – remind them of ground rules as needed – redirect, resolve problems as they arise, etc. Always treat all children with dignity and respect.
  • Communicate with parents in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Direct any concerns about a child’s progress, development or behavior to the other aftercare teachers.
  • Keep area neat and tidy
  • Instruct students to use the restroom before going home.
  • Ensure students look tidy (ex. face and hands washed, noses wiped)

Qualifications: A BA degree and experience teaching students in one or more divisions: Early Childhood, Lower School and Middle School. Teaching and or Assistant Teaching experience is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as a love for working with children or young adults is required.
