Position Purpose
The Visual Arts teacher at Rosarian Academy is expected to:
- Develop in each student an interest in and ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines.
- Develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations for works of art as well as the natural world.
- Discover and develop talents of students in the field of art, while offering a superior education academically, spiritually, and socially in a structured, positive environment in the tradition of Catholic education.
Job Description
The Art Teacher will perform each of the following responsibilities:
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
- Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
- Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
- Know and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
- Know the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution/collection
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, and instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
- Sponsor exhibits from outside the school when available
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art programming and middle school art electives
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Administration including but not limited to substituting during open periods.
Minimum Education Requirements / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts; Masters degree preferred
- Hold, or be working towards a valid, current Florida Teaching Certificate
- Two years classroom experience

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Be able to repetitively bend and kneel.
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Be able to work outside on the playground.
- Be able to stand and move around for prolonged periods of time.
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
- Transport students between buildings, inclusive of flights of stairs, to/from lunch, assemblies, co-curricular classes, etc.
- Daily arrival/dismissal duty monitoring and helping students into and out of automobiles.
- Maintain bulletin boards, some of which may be at a high level.

Job Title: Part-Time Early Childhood Aftercare Assistant
Monday – Friday
2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. regular school dismissal time)
12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. dismissal time)
11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Noon dismissal time)
Responsibilities Include:
- Instructors are responsible for the creation of all materials related to activities. Prior to distribution, all materials must be pre-approved by Rosarian Academy.
- Daily attendance records must be submitted to the Main Office within 30 minutes of the start of each daily session. (No later than 3:25)
- Work collaboratively and productively with fellow aftercare teachers and other staff members
- Change diapers as needed
- Actively participate in professional development, faculty meetings and events when required
- Supervise children on the playground
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the Learning Environment
- Provide direct instruction with homework
- Discipline as necessary – always try re-direction first, conscious discipline, and anticipating problems before they arise! Observe, Observe, Observe!
- Be attentive of children – remind them of ground rules as needed – redirect, resolve problems as they arise, etc. Always treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Communicate with parents in a friendly and professional manner.
- Direct any concerns about a child’s progress, development or behavior to the other aftercare teachers.
- Keep area neat and tidy
- Instruct students to use the restroom before going home.
- Ensure students look tidy (ex. face and hands washed, noses wiped)
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree preferred (but not required)
- Experience in a Montessori/Early Childhood Learning Environment preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Organized, flexible and team-oriented
- Ability to work effectively with infant and preschool children
- Willingness to learn about Montessori Education and Conscious Discipline
- Must have completed 45-Hour Child Care Training Course as required by DCF or be willing to complete upon hiring
- CPR and First Aid Certified

Rosarian Academy seeks substitute teachers for daily instructional needs. This is a per diem position that is required for Early Childhood, Lower and Middle School. Qualifications: A BA degree and experience teaching students in one or more divisions: Early Childhood, Lower School and Middle School. Teaching and or Assistant Teaching experience is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as a love for working with children or young adults is required.
