MIDDLE SCHOOL
Through an engaging, stimulating and challenging curriculum that accelerates intellectual, physical and social growth, the Middle School (grades 5th-8th) builds upon the solid foundation begun in the Lower School. At this level, subject matter becomes departmentalized. Dedicated faculty provide students with an in-depth learning experience in religion, literature, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and Spanish. Exploratory and elective courses in coding, robotics, study skills, debate, theatre, health and physical education, chess, band, strings, chorus and art complement the program and provide a well-rounded education for students. Fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders also participate in educational trips and service projects. These activities provide students with the opportunity to build leadership skills, strengthen self-esteem and nurture their capacity for global competence. Approximately two-thirds of 7th and 8th grade students are Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) scholars. Our students are accepted into the most desired day and boarding secondary schools and ultimately into the finest colleges and universities.
