Rosarian Class of 2019 Commences Their Next Step: Advised ‘Do Not Play It Safe’
Rosarian Academy graduated 29 young men and women from its eighth grade class on Thursday, May 23, 2019, in the school Theater. Class of 2015 alumna, Caroline Fulton, addressed the graduates as the commencement speaker. It was a beautiful graduation ceremony, honoring the Class of 2019 for their hard work and achievements.
Caroline spoke to the graduates about how Rosarian prepared her “in more ways than [she] could’ve imagined” for the next four years of her life… from taking high school classes that were “nearly impossible” to traveling on a service trip to Thailand, branching out friendships, or trying out for the team for which she had no experience. “Do not play it safe,” she advised, “It might be awkward, or weird, or you might even fail, but you can always learn from the outcome.”
She closed with, “Rosarian has provided you with a foundation so strong in academics, athletics, friends, faith, a foundation that’s not going anywhere. But you need to build on that foundation to see its true worth”
Caroline attended Rosarian continuously from kindergarten through eighth grade. She graduated from Rosarian with the highest GPA in her graduating class and proceeded to high school at Saint Andrew’s School, receiving a four-year merit scholarship to attend. She was inducted in the Cum Laude Society while a junior, placing her in the top 10% of her class. This is the highest academic honor bestowed by the school. Caroline also received the Wellesley Book Award—given to one junior female each year, acknowledging Caroline’s academic record, exceptional character, and personal contributions to Saint Andrew’s and the larger community. Caroline will attend the University of Virginia as a first-year student in the fall of 2019.
Following the commencement address, eighth-grade NJHS president, Mia Pariseleti, presented the class gift—donating a Station of the Cross located in the walkway outside the school chapel.
Special awards given to students included the 2019 President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, presented to Thomas Coates, Stephen Hall, MJ Hanlon, Crede Janson, Olivia Klein, Alina Morrison, Mia Pariseleti, Victoria Reynolds, Nick Scully, Parker Ward, students who achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher cumulative on a 4.0 scale, a 90th percentile or higher on all state tests and nationally-normed achievement tests and high achievement in reading or math during their middle school career; the President’s Education Award for Educational Achievement to Matthew Cohen for showing outstanding educational growth, improvement, commitment or intellectual development in academic subjects; Highest Standing Academic Accomplishment at Rosarian Academy, awarded to Mia Pariseleti and Victoria Reynolds for earning a 4.0 GPA as well as excellence in both effort and conduct throughout the entire 2018-2019 academic year; Highest Academic Honors was awarded to Victoria Reynolds for earning “A’s” and “E’s” in all core and co-curricular subjects as well as “A’s” on all exams for the 3rd trimester; the St. Dominic Award, presented to Ava Iuliani and Victoria Reynolds for demonstrating a strong belief in God, the pursuit of truth in all forms, and the Christian values of kindness, respect and integrity; and the Oakley Debbs Red Sneaker Award, presented to Lily Guari for participation in four or more sports and receiving at least three athletic awards.
Outstanding achievement in subject area awards went to: Religion, Crede Janson; Literature, Thomas Coates; English, Mia Pariseleti; Geometry Honors, Victoria Reynolds; Algebra I Honors, Lily Guari; Algebra I, Katarina Bessenroth; History, Valery Gonzalez; Science, Trace Scuderi; Spanish, Alina Morrison; STEM, Parker Ward; Art, Victoria Reynolds; Drama, Crede Janson and Mia Pariseleti; Physical Education, Matthew Cohen.
Head of School Linda Trethewey closed the ceremony with a few words about the Class of 2019:
“This class represents a continued legacy started over 90 years ago by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Our Dominican foundation is rooted in service, prayer, scholarship and the pursuit of truth and justice. Your diploma serves as a sentiment to your forever membership of RA…Continue to pursue your passion and find joy in all that you do. Do one thing every day that pushes you to become the best you.”
