WHAT:
‘Anything can happen’ at Rosarian Academy. The school’s theater department is flying to new heights as it prepares its third-through-eighth grade thespians for the production of Mary Poppins Jr. ZFX, the industry leader in performer flying, will be teaching five of the cast members how to fly during the actual musical performances. Flight school will take place Friday, April 26 from 2:00 PM-6:00 PM.
The actors learning to fly include: eighth-grader Mia Pariseleti (Mary Poppins), eighth-grader Crede Janson (Bert, The Chimney Sweep), sixth-grader Marcello Fiorentino (Michael Banks), sixth-grader Nicole Atteridge (Jane Banks), and seventh-grader Layna Steele (Miss Andrews). Throughout the 70-minute musical, Mary Poppins will be involved in six different flights; Bert will somersault across the stage; The Banks Children will fly together while singing “Anything Can Happen;” and Miss Andrews will be forcefully removed from the Banks household.
The downtown West Palm Beach school is the first school in Palm Beach County to fly Mary, and the only middle school to do flying effects. This will be the second time that Rosarian is flying students on stage. In 2013, the Wicked Witch of the West flew in the musical production of The Wizard of Oz.
ZFX, Inc. is based out of Louisville, KY, and is the complete service provider for flying effects. They handle the rigging, flying harness, and cover every aspect of flying possibilities.
Rosarian Academy will perform Mary Poppins Jr. on Friday, May 10 at 7:00 PM; Saturday, May 11 at 7:00 PM; and Sunday, May 12 at 2:00 PM at 807 N. Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and will be available for purchase starting April 23 atra.booktix.com.
A full dress rehearsal/play preview for Rosarian students will take place on Thursday, May 9 at 9:45 AM. Local preschools and elementary schools are invited to the Thursday performance.
