Rosarian Academy toured the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach on November 3 as part of an educational unit on expository essays. Prior to their field trip, 5th-grade students learned the technique and elements of expository essays by writing one such essay on the benefits of the public library. After doing their research and penning their essays, students had the opportunity to witness firsthand all the benefits that the local public library offers. During their tour, students learned about the community programs and outreach offered by the library, including the availability of air-conditioned public space for the disadvantaged and the summer meal program for children who depend on their school lunches for adequate nutrition. They also learned about the research centers that offer free internet availability to people without access to Wi-Fi. The students enjoyed their time at the library and built up the foundational Dominican pillars of study, service, and community in the process.
