As we continue to monitor the latest information from the CDC and Florida Department of Health related to COVID-19, we write to provide you with information related to upcoming events, field trips and possible future school closure.
In response to Governor DeSantis’ wish to postpone large gatherings to fight the spread of the virus, we are postponing the 41st Auction & Ball scheduled for this Saturday, March 14. The Silent Auction will remain open until Friday, March 20. Auction items will be available for pickup following Spring Break. We are working with the Norton Museum of Art to determine a new date for the Live Auction and really fun party (we will need it once we get through this pandemic!).
To protect our students, staff, and families from possible COVID-19 exposure, all field trips, in-state and out-of-state, are now canceled. We are working with the travel companies to determine financial reimbursements for the 8th Grade Washington, D.C., trip and the 6th Grade St. Augustine trip. Coach Vinnie’s Spring Break Camp, scheduled for March 23-27, is canceled.
All faculty and staff met yesterday to begin planning for distant learning should that become a necessity. All teachers set up their “Google Classrooms” where they will be able to post assignments, respond to assignments, and video conference. Middle School teachers are working with students today in their Google Classrooms. Lower School students will be able to access Google Classrooms through their parents. More information will come for how parents will be able to help their children access and complete schoolwork.
As of now, Lacrosse, Cross Country, and Frozen Jr. practices will take place next week as scheduled. We are moving forward with planning Lower School Field Day for next Friday, March 20.
We pray for all those affected by the coronavirus to date and ask God to help guide our leaders and us in making the best decisions to slow down the spread and reach of COVID-19.
