Visual Vocal Performance

Using comprehensive instructions, our music curriculum promotes individual skill development while teaching students to participate in a group setting. Students are encouraged to artistically and confidently express themselves through voice, playing of instruments, and movement. Staying true to our mission, the music program regularly utilizes elements taught in other subjects.

We believe music and artistic expression are vital components of an exploratory education.

Music (All Grades)

This course provides all students with instruction in fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and form. Beginning in Montessori and Kindergarten, students are introduced to basic musical ideas through singing, movement, listening, and exploration. As students progress into Lower School (Grades 1–4) and Middle School, instruction advances to include reading music, learning about instruments, and playing them both individually and in groups.

Each class functions as a performance group, with the goal of helping students develop comfort and confidence in performing for one another and for an audience. Through regular performance practice, students build confidence, strengthen public speaking skills, and are encouraged to participate in school musical productions. Class time is also used to prepare for annual programs and performances, including the Christmas program, Grandparents’ Day, school liturgies, and other events. All programs are expected to be fully memorized, with movement choreographed when appropriate. Students learn music for Mass and develop an appreciation for a variety of musical styles, including classical, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre.

Choir (Grades 5-8)

The Middle School Choir is a select ensemble of students who demonstrate commitment, musicianship, and a passion for choral performance. This group serves an important role in the life of the school by providing music for school Masses, while also representing the school through performances both on and off campus. Through rehearsals and performances, students refine vocal technique, blend, and musical expression, while gaining experience singing a varied and meaningful repertoire. Participation in choir fosters confidence, discipline, collaboration, and a deeper appreciation for the sacred and artistic traditions of choral music.

Visual Arts Program

Lower School students participate in a visual arts program that offers media experiences and processes, art history units, self-expression and evaluation skills, as well as an opportunity to see the relevancy of art in their school and community.

Middle School students, advancing their Lower School art background, study additional design and composition principles, practice more complex media skills and techniques, and develop their own personal style.

Celebrating with an art show at the end of the year, student’s creative experiences are displayed for the school and community.

Our staff of artistic professionals strive to impart quality expertise and creative passions to each student, according to their individual gifts and talents.

Theater Arts

Rosarian’s Theater Arts Program develops students’ intrapersonal and interpersonal communication skills, encouraging strong internal reflection, creative problem-solving, and collaborative abilities essential in today’s interconnected, AI-driven world. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, students learn to express themselves confidently, work effectively with others, and take thoughtful creative risks.

Rooted in Ephesians 4:2, students enter the program “with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,” fostering a supportive environment where risks are encouraged, failures are celebrated, and growth is celebrated at every level. Theater Arts provides a solid foundation for students interested in performing arts, preparing them for high school programs that require auditions or advanced theater study, while instilling lifelong skills in communication, empathy, and teamwork.

Theater Arts K-4th

In Lower School, students explore the fundamentals of theater, including character creation, story development, and basic theater terminology. Second and third graders begin to understand character traits, archetypes, and the importance of storytelling, while gradually incorporating costumes, props, sets, and basic critique techniques. Fourth graders deepen their self-expression and self-identity, exploring social issues through performance and reflecting on their growth as performers. Through all activities, students build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills in a supportive, risk-friendly environment.

Theater Arts 5th-8th

Middle School students build on earlier theater experiences, developing strong characters, addressing meaningful community issues, and integrating design elements such as sets, costumes, and props. They practice careful and constructive critique, refine collaborative storytelling, and gain practical performance skills. Participation in Rosarian’s two annual productions, a fall play for grades five through eight and a spring musical for grades two through eight, allows students to apply classroom learning in real-world settings, while collaborating across grades to foster creativity, commitment, empathy, and community.

Theater Electives

For students seeking deeper engagement, Theater Arts electives provide opportunities to explore advanced performance techniques, stagecraft, and production skills. These electives allow students to refine their acting, directing, and design abilities while gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of theater production. Students learn to work independently and collaboratively on complex projects, further developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and confidence. Electives also offer a pathway for students considering performing arts high schools or advanced theater programs, giving them the tools, experience, and mindset to succeed in more specialized environments.

Gain Confidence Through Performance

Music education at Rosarian encourages students to engage with both instrumental and vocal music. Students can participate in ensembles and choirs, where they learn essential skills like reading music, rhythm, and pitch. The Academy’s music program helps students gain confidence through performances, while also teaching them the importance of collaboration and discipline in an artistic setting.

It’s more than just a theater…

It’s 60+ years of dramatic excellence.

Rosarian Academy has infused dramatic excellence into the daily lives of its students since the school’s inception in 1925. However, thanks to a generous gift from Mr. Frederick Machlin, the Margaret Tighe Machlin Fine Arts Center opened its doors on December 14, 1964.

For 60+ years, this iconic Palm Beach County landmark has welcomed thousands of patrons and performers. Legends like Judy Garland, Perry Como and Peter Lawford – and the talents of Ballet Florida, Gilbert & Sullivan Society and the Greater Palm Beach Symphony – have graced its stage. Most importantly, the venue – complete with a fully functional orchestra pit and lift – has set the scene for generations of drama productions, school-wide masses, character assemblies, awards presentations and graduations.

Thus, the Fine Arts Center is more than just a theater. It’s a path for discovery – a safe place for self-expression and creativity where life lessons are taught and learned. It’s an important avenue for student enrichment through the arts.
