Three young women were recipients of the Student of the Year Award by the Palm Beach chapter of the Kiwanis Club: Mia Pariseleti from Rosarian Academy; Lucy Newmyer from Palm Beach Day Academy; and Nashelei Garcia-Herrera from Palm Beach Public School.

Pariseleti, an eighth-grader who recently played the title role in “Mary Poppins Jr.” at her school, also starred on the Raiders’ volleyball and soccer teams. In volleyball, she was named MVP this year and recipient of the Heart Award in sixth grade. Outside school, she plays club volleyball for the Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy.

She served as president of Rosarian’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, earned the award for Highest Academic Honors in seventh grade, the President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence in eighth grade, served as a Student Ambassador and was a Duke University TIP scholar. She also won subject-area awards in drama and English in eighth grade. She will go on to study at Cardinal Newman High School in the fall.

Newmyer, also an eighth-grader, was named recipient of a Katie Tummon Educational Autobiographical Award and the William H. Davis Jr. Science and Mathematics Award at commencement, and the Holder Cup, considered the school’s highest student award. At the end-of-the year awards ceremony, she also was honored with the fine arts and science awards for her grade.

As a seventh-grader, she was one of 11 Palm Beach County students whose essay qualified her to question Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli aboard the International Space Station. She will go on to study at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Conn.

Garcia-Herrera, a fifth-grader, comes to school every day excited and eager to learn. She serves as a member of the safety patrol and participates in the after-school arts program. Outside school, she is a student of the martial arts.
